How to Clean and Maintain Interlocking Floor Tiles

How to Clean and Maintain Interlocking Floor Tiles

One of the biggest advantages of modular interlocking tiles is how easy they are to maintain. Here’s a simple guide to keeping your tiles looking new for years.

Routine Cleaning (Weekly)

For solid and coin-top tiles: Sweep or vacuum to remove loose debris, then damp-mop with warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals — they’re unnecessary and can leave residue.

For ribbed/drainage tiles: Sweep debris from the surface, then rinse with a garden hose or pressure washer on low setting. The open-grid design allows debris and water to flow through.

Stain Removal

  • Oil and grease: Apply a degreaser (Simple Green or equivalent), let sit 5 minutes, scrub with a nylon brush, rinse
  • Tire marks: Hot water + dish soap + nylon brush. For stubborn marks, use a melamine sponge (Magic Eraser)
  • Paint spills: Fresh latex paint wipes up with warm soapy water. Dried paint can be carefully scraped with a plastic scraper

Deep Cleaning (Quarterly)

For a thorough clean, individual tiles can be removed, cleaned separately, and reinstalled. This is especially useful for ribbed tiles where debris accumulates beneath the surface.

What to Avoid

Never use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or concentrated solvents directly on the tile surface. While PP is chemically resistant, prolonged contact with certain solvents can dull the surface finish.
